A few months back in July, when Yoel Romero fought Robert Whittaker for the Interim UFC Middleweight Championship, the real UFC Middleweight Champion (who’s actually the fake Middleweight champ in many fans’ minds) ripped up a Cuban flag cageside and threw it at Romero. He didn’t take too kindly to this, obviously, and had this to say…
Now he’s wearing a ridiculous hat in various locations of Cuba, standing and sitting on the British flag like it’s a safe zone in “the floor is lava”, and screaming about wanting to fight Bisping. Issue is, he’s already got a fight against Georges St-Pierre for the Middleweight Title at Madison Square Garden, and Romero lost the fight for the Interim strap. With a Luke Rockhold win this past weekend, Yoel is probably 4th in line for Bisping, so this would be like me declaring allegiance against my boss. You’ll get a chuckle out of it, maybe, but there’s no winning long term, and you kinda look dumb for doing it.
“Hey Dana…gimme dat FACKIN’ BOY!” was hysterical though, and almost worth a title shot itself.
P.S. I’ve said this before, but it’s worth repeating. Michael Bisping isn’t running from anyone. He was offered the GSP fight, and he said yes. When Dana wanted to cancel that fight and move St-Pierre down to Welterweight, Bisping said he would fight the Interim champ. He’s just doing what the boss is telling him to.
