Old Pals Mike And Mike Reporting (Kinda) That Andrew Luck Might Want Out In Indy
This morning when I was driving my daughter to daycare, I happened to come across Mike and Mike on the ole FM radio. They were talking about the AFC South which caught my ear. They were talking about the mess that is the Colts and that really made me happy. As a Jaguars fan, the Colts have owned us for years. Seeing them struggle while the Jaguars are 1-0 makes me so happy. I knew the Colts were bad, so that portion of the show didn’t really surprise me.
But then they started to talk about the rumors floating that Andrew Luck isn’t happy in Indy and that he thinks that the organization is being run poorly. A look at their offensive line and defense would suggest that he’s right, but is that really different than years past? I don’t think so.
And what has really changed in the organization since July of last year when he signed a six-year 140 million dollar deal with 47 million guaranteed and 23.3 million per season? Not a whole lot. Our pal Pat retired and joined us here at Barstool and the Colts fired Ryan Grigson who was fucking worthless. After having Andrew Luck fall in his lap at the number one pick, Grigson didn’t make any notable signings or draft picks except for TY Hilton. Well, I guess trading for Trent Richardson is technically notable but in an actually bad type of way.
If the Colts did move on from Luck, they’d probably follow the Peyton Manning formula. If they sucked to the point where they got a top 2 or 3 draft pick and were in a position to draft one of the top QBs this year, they could most likely get an insane package from another team for Luck. I’d imagine that it’d take at least 2 first round picks if not 3 first-round picks for Luck. Luck would still be under contract for 4 years at the start of next season and, if healthy, you’d undoubtedly have your QB of the future and present. The Colts could sign a new coach, new GM, and have a new quarterback while also having 2 first-round picks for the next three years which is a fast-track to a rebuild unless you’re the Browns.
But who would send that kind of package for a QB who has been injured the better part of the last two seasons?
With Kirk Cousins likely to walk after being franchise tagged two times, the Redskins can’t reset all the way again. They’ll win at least 8 games this year and be somewhere in the 20-24th slot of the first round of the draft. You’re not gonna feel comfortable drafting your QB from that spot. They’ll have to move up. This kind of move has the Washington Redskins all over it. Let Cousins walk and bring in Luck. Luck with Jay Gruden would be pretty dope too. It’d be his first time with a real offensive mind as his head coach.
Who knows what will happen in Indy. I’m just glad they are struggling their dicks off while my Jaguars are sitting pretty…. for now.
