Judge Judy Negotiated Her $47 Million Salary By Sliding An Envelope To CBS Executives And Telling Them To "Sleep On It"

Source –  Judge Judy laid down the law while negotiating her hefty $47-million-a-year salary, she said in a newly unveiled deposition.

CBS had “no choice” but to pay the no-nonsense jurist what she wanted, lest she produce the show herself, she said. “Their back’s to the wall,” Judy Sheindlin bragged about CBS’s bargaining position, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “I can produce this show myself.”

She said she uses the threat while negotiating with CBS’s president during a meal every three years, in which she hands over a list of demands, including calls for pay raises. “We sit across the table, and I hand him the envelope and I say, ‘Don’t read it now, let’s have a nice dinner. Call me tomorrow. You want it, fine. Otherwise, I’ll produce it myself,” she testified.

One year, when then-CBS head John Nogawski brought his own envelope, she flatly told him: “This isn’t a negotiation.”

The Brooklyn-born Sheindlin was testifying in a suit brought against her bosses that claims the network pays her too much.

Obey the law, Judge! She’s shaking down CBS like Pesci in Casino. She even sounds like a mobster, “Their backs are against the wall.” “Don’t read it now, let’s have a nice dinner. Call me tomorrow.”  They’ve got  to wake up, adjust their strategy, do something. Getting your pockets run by a five-foot one TV judge is no way to live.  I’m sure it’s traumatic for their executives too. Not many people are used to negotiating with possums. Sucks because no matter what they do she’ll always have the upper hand. She could easily produce the show on her own. Anyone could. No writers, no producers, just a courtroom and a henchman.

The worst part would be knowing she’s going to roast you to the media. Forty-seven million dollars is outrageous. The only person who makes more is Ellen. Which is understandable, everyone watches Ellen. The only people who watch Judge Judy are the people who are going to end up on it.

I’ll watch everyone once in a while and it’s mesmerizing. She charms people by ripping them. “You’re an idiot!” “Thank you Judge!” Three years from now she’ll be back in the boardroom asking for more money. They’ll give it to her too. No one wants an angry Judge Judy.
