Disney Is Launching Their Own Streaming Service Just To Broadcast NHL Games. And Other Things. But Mostly NHL

CNBC – Disney wants to own a bigger piece of the streaming pie. The company announced during its latest earnings report on Tuesday it intends to remove its movies from Netflix.

Instead, Disney plans to launch a branded direct-to-consumer streaming service in 2019 starting in the U.S. and expanding globally…The company will also launch its own ESPN video streaming service in early 2018. The platform, which will feature about 10,000 sporting events each year, will have content from the MLB, NHL, MLS, collegiate sports and tennis’ Grand Slam events.

The other day, Bucci said that he was “very optimistic” about the NHL returning to ESPN. Well turns out that Disney went out and will launch their own streaming services just to get their hands back in the hockey pot. Sure, they are also planning to stream their movies and tv shows and MLB and MLS and college sports and whatever else they get ahold of. But make no mistake about it, this move from the Mickey Mouse Corporation was 100% geared toward the NHL.

Think about it. What’s the point in owning a sports network if they’re not even going to show the greatest sport ever invented. What’s the point of owning ESPN if they’re just going to suck LeBron’s dick for 24 hours a day and maybe mention hockey for 15 seconds every other week. What’s the point in owning ESPN if they’re just going to talk down to you about social issues when they could be spending that air time showing Connor McDavid doing Connor McDavid things? I’ll tell you–there is no point. Disney knew they shot themselves in the dick the moment they lost the broadcasting rights to the NHL and now they have to take on Netflix just to get some of them back.

P.S. – Now that Disney is going to be involved with the NHL again, I think it’s safe to say we need to bring back the original Ducks jerseys.

You’re not going to find a single person in the world who thinks their new shit is better than the originals. 7 billion people in the world and all of them are begging the Ducks to go back to the Mighty Ducks.

P.P.S. – Real talk, find yourself an password. Either purchase one yourself or split one with a buddy or whatever. The fact that most of the country will only get to watch McDavid and Matthews play a total of 6 times this year is a crime. Get and you have every game every night. Pays for itself after the first week.
