Texas To Allow Citizens To Open Carry Swords And Daggers, Goths Everywhere Rejoice
CBS News – As of September, adults in Texas will be legally allowed to openly carry knives with blades longer than 5.5 inches, CBS DFW reports. Daggers, spears and even machetes fall into that category. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed the bill into law last month, but it doesn’t go into effect until September 1.
“Carrying a sword down the street, carrying a Bowie knife down the street… completely legal. Machetes if you want to,” said general manager at the House of Blades in Fort Worth, Ahnna Escobedo. “I think it was more to give people more rights and to make sure they felt like they were free to carry what they wanted,” Escobedo said. “Texas move right there, sure.”
“I know when open carry came about there was some initial fear, is everybody going to be carrying guns everywhere? Or, is there going to be shootings everywhere? And I really think this is going to mirror that,” said McNear.
“It’s really the unknown. Does the guy have a weapon concealed on him?” questioned McNear. Escobedo agrees and said she is often more concerned about the smaller blades. “Just to be honest, the time and effort it takes to unsheathe something this large versus taking something like this out of your pocket, this is going to be a lot faster,” said Escobedo.
Right when I think I’m done with Texas they pull me back in. Everyone loves swords and daggers. I’d actually like to see them to go a step further and legalize all Ninja Turtles style weaponry. Nunchucks included. Snowflakes are saying it’s dangerous but they’re missing the point. It’s not about safety, it’s about rights. Besides, it’s the smaller blades we have to worry about. You know how long it takes to unsheathe a nineteenth-century Qing dynasty samurai? Me neither. But I’m sure it’s longer than it takes your local scumbag to pull out a switch blade. Nigel Powers said it best, “it’s not the size that matters, it’s how you use it.” All Texas is doing is leveling the playing field. If everyone has a sword, no one has a sword.
As the largest consumers of ancient weaponry, it’s a major win for both the Goth and Asian cowboy communities. No more stuffing swords down their pants. No more accidental circumcisions. Now they can proudly display their blades as if they were guns. It’s a great conversation starter too. “How big is that thing?” “Bigger than yours!”
Come to think of it I’m sure there are a lot of people who are excited about the new law. Juggalos, Larpers, Dungeons and Dragons enthusiasts. Texas takes a lot of shit for discrimination so it’s nice to see them take a step towards inclusion. Can’t wait to see what they do next. And I Really can’t wait to see more of these videos.
