Mashable- If you’re going to try to smuggle dozens of iPhones, maybe taping them to your body and trying to hide them under your clothes isn’t the best way to get through customs. One woman found this out the hard way while trying to sneak 102 iPhones from Hong Kong into mainland China, specifically Shenzhen—where, ironically, many iPhones are made at the gigantic Foxconn plant. Apparently, this is not an uncommon occurrence because the devices are cheaper in Hong Kong. According to XMNN, custom officials suspected the woman might be smuggling something because she was wearing a cardigan over her blouse despite the heat and she had an awkward bulky look to her upper body despite “arms and legs [that were] relatively slim.”   Sure enough, a search revealed that the woman had strapped the phones to her body underneath her clothes. All those phones wound up giving the woman an extra 40-plus pounds of weight, which is what happens when you strap a bunch of smartphones to your body.

I gotta tell ya, this story brings me comfort and I’ll tell you why. I’m not an airport security truther but sometimes I feel like I might be an airport security truther. Because the last few times I’ve flown I’ve forgotten to take my belt off and I walked right through with no problem. I don’t do it on purpose but sometimes I’ll just waltz through the machine (that is likely giving us all cancer) with my belt on and nothing happens. That’s not how it should work, right? That machine should for sure be picking up that I’m wearing a belt with a giant chunk of metal on it, no? It makes me think that airport security is all bark and no bite. That they just scare you with giant whirring machines that are nothing more than cardboard boxes with fancy screens. That the TSA workers are just homeless people the airport brought off the streets to grope people at random times. But this lady being caught red handed with 102 iPhones strapped to her body is a step in the right direction. I mean it doesn’t necessarily take a security savant to spot someone with a billion cell phones to their body but it’s a start.
