Nike Reveals Plans for NBA Jerseys Starting in 2017-18

Jerseys

Nike and the NBA are about to being an eight-year partnership beginning with the 2017-18 season. This means new jerseys. I don’t know why and I can’t explain it besides the fact I’m a nerd, but I get jazzed up when I hear new jerseys for any team/sport/level. I love me some new designs and the immediate reaction of people blasting them or loving them.

So what’s going on with the changes for next year? Well obviously we know about the ad deals, which is something we’re not going to discuss in this blog as much as we are the actual jerseys. The main difference is Nike is getting rid of the true home/road jersey designs. Instead they are going with four different looks which the NBA will allow the home team of each game to pick which jersey they want and then the road team will pick a contrasting color. It’s almost leaning towards a soccer style, where each team will typically have that one main jersey that is associated with the franchise.

The Association and Icon jerseys will make their debuts this summer. We have an idea of what to expect as the Kings unveiled their jerseys for the 2017-18 season:

Nothing too drastic so far with the Kings release, but Nike has come out and said they will be making another jersey that is inspired by each city that teams play in. The other main takeaway (staying away from the ad portion) is moving the small logo from the chest to the waistband. It’s a subtle touch that’s pretty nice as the waistband logo is a good look.

Nike has announced that 8 teams will be wearing the ‘classic’ edition, which would likely include some combo of the Celtics, Lakers, Knicks, Pistons, 76ers, Rockets, Bulls and Spurs. Here are the full details of what each jersey name means:
