Highlights From SEC Media Day 4

Bittersweet day as the SEC Media Days came to an end. We have heard from 11 of the 14 teams in the SEC and learned a lot about each program. Nick Saban isn’t satisfied, Kevin Sumlin is on the hot seat, and Butch Jones is still a champion of life. Going into the last day, three programs who have a lot going on with their teams were up to bat, and some interesting news/funny tidbits came out of the finale.

South Carolina:

Not a terrible idea for Muschamp, especially after some of the shit he’s pulled on the sidelines at Florida and Auburn.

Since the coaching flip from Steve Spurrier to Shawn Elliott to Muschamp, the Gamecocks have really struggled to find their identity that they had from 2010-2013. Its no secret that they lost their swagger, but Jake Bentley, their end of the season starting QB who won four of his seven starts, is ready to bring that back.

Going 3-5 in the SEC is no where near ideal, but Muschamp knows that. They’ve been in the middle of the pack with recruiting, but Muschamp touched on how having a QB like Bentley who can win has helped with recruiting.

Had to end on that note.

Auburn:

I am going to be as unbiased as I can, because Auburn WILL be good this year. They snagged Jarrett Stidham from Baylor and they still have returning starter Sean White. With a solid QB, Auburn is a legitimate force in the West. *Goes and washes hands after typing that sentence out.

Some good news for Auburn fans, Malzahn said that the last time he felt like this was 2013, when the Tigers went the BCS National Championship. He isn’t putting his attention past their first game of the season, Georgia Southern, but playing at Clemson as the second game of the season is huge for them.

Is Auburn really talking if Cam Newton isn’t brought up?? Overall, Auburn is up there as a solid bet to win the SEC, so it will be interesting to see what their fall is like.

Ole Miss:

An absolute BOMB was dropped on the Ole Miss program yesterday as Houston Nutt filed a lawsuit against them.

Before taking the main stage, Freeze talked to local media to set the tone of not being able to answer anything. It is an ongoing lawsuit and he called the timing of the suit “ironic.”

Freeze took the stage at Media Day and just ripped into the fattest filibuster of all time. He had the longest opening statement at 2,773 words, and he tried to spin this into a, “It provides us with a growing season,” headline, but we all know that this will not end well.

Good news, no player has left the program yet! Bad news, your coach said this and will probably be fired, “Integrity is not always doing the right thing, but it is acknowledging when something is not right. You own it.”
