The Trailer For Daniel Cormier vs Jon Jones II May Be The Best Sports Promo Ever
I mentioned this briefly at the end of my weekend UFC 213 blog (READ HERE), but after really thinking it over, and watching it over…MANY times, I felt it deserved it’s own blog. This looks like it’s the trailer for this year’s best picture. I mean, it’s fucking bold, but that’s what I love about it. The UFC is pulling no punches about Jon Jones drug abuse, criminal charges, and general shittiness. He suuuuuuucks as a person. He’s my least favorite fighter ever because of what he’s done. The MMA hardos come after me every time I say that just because of his ability once he steps into the cage, but I can’t excuse it. No Jon Jones “redemption” story is gonna do it for me in 2017. Not after he hit a pregnant woman with his car, fled the scene, and decided it’s okay to joke about. Not after he told us all how he’s a changed man time and time again, and continuously fucks up. Not after he blocked me on Twitter for an Octagon Challenge.
Daniel Cormier on the other hand has turned the corner for me. I used to hate his cocky schtick, until I saw through it. He’s a good dude, and a GREAT fighter. As great as Jones? No…but a fighter’s skill does not determine whether or not I’ll cheer for them. I mean, the fucking guy tried to create a waiver to fight Jon Jones last July after being informed he tested positive.
Wish this clip was used more around the build to #UFC214.
Cormier wanted to fight Bones knowing full well he was on steroids. Didn't care. pic.twitter.com/O4XHCJ2pfK

I wish Cormier’s dominance as champion was shown a bit more in that video, and Jones was made into less of a sympathetic figure, but it all makes sense. As long as Jones stays healthy and doesn’t ruin his own life, he’ll be around much longer than Daniel Cormier. He’ll have just turned 30 by the time this fight happens, and Daniel Cormier is 38. This could very well be his last fight, win or lose. So from a marketing standpoint, yeah. Tell us the greatest all of time is on a redemption mission. From a moral standpoint, give the actual champion who’s defended his belt while his challenger was suspended some respect.
