Fox News Founder Roger Ailes Pulls A Classic JoePa, Dies

Wow. Roger Ailes was an ICON in modern American media. He founded and led Fox News from 1996 until last summer. He created a cable news giant that dominated ratings by providing a channel that catered to the “silent majority” aka conservatives in the United States. He was a media mastermind who built something that’s legacy will long, long outlive his own.

He also was at the center of severe controversy and criticism the network has faced over the past few years around a pattern of sexual harassment. Ailes resigned on July 21st of last year, amid perhaps the most contentious presidential campaign of our lifetime. He received $40 million from Fox in an exit agreement.

And now he dies. I understand that he was loved by many, and my T’s & P’s are with those people, but this is a classic, CLASSIC JoePa. Couldn’t draw it up any closer. Carbon copy.

PS — In a 2013 book excerpt, Ailes addressed death. He said, “Because of my hemophilia, I’ve been prepared to face death all of my life. When it comes, I’ll be fine, calm. I’ll miss life, though. Especially my family.”
