UFC Calls Off Bisping vs Georges St-Pierre, Yoel Romero Gets Next Title Shot

UFC: Bisping v St-Pierre Press Conference

Fox Sports- Dana White has dropped a UFC bombshell, declaring Georges St-Pierre’s comeback title fight against Michael Bisping is dead. With GSP saying he would not fight until “after October”, the stacked middleweight division had been put into gridlock and top contenders were taking angry potshots at the UFC.

White has now seemingly taken the extraordinary of killing the GSP vs Bisping match – planned as a blockbuster comeback for the Canadian icon after more than three years out of the Octagon, and a deserved big payday for the English journeyman. White said Bisping would now fight No.1 contender Yoel Romero, as was originally planned.

Biiiig news coming out of Australia late last night. Georges St-Pierre will no longer be granted a title shot in his return to the UFC, because this guy just does not want to fight. I know the MMA hardos won’t like that statement, but fuck man, GSP is the biggest cock tease of all time. He teased coming back from retirement since the day after he retired right up until the day he scribbled his name on the contract in February. Then, he teased a fight announcement for a bit. Then, a fight against Middleweight Champ Michael Bisping was announced, along with NO DATE or time frame.

There was controversy about St-Pierre being “undeserving” of a title shot which actually had less to do with GSP not actually deserving a title shot (he went out on top and is arguably the GOAT), and more to do with the division being stacked with guys who are just more deserving. After George St-Pierre posted this video on Twitter, saying he wouldn’t be ready to fight until after OCTOBER, MMA Twitter went up in flames.

There’s one person in particular that is more deserving of a title shot than anyone in history, and that is Yoel Romero. Yoel’s on an eight fight win streak, has never lost in the UFC, and only lost once in his entire career…in 2011. The opponents he has beat on his UFC run include Chris Weidman, Jacare Souza, Lyoto Machida, Tim Kennedy, Brad Tavares, Derek Brunson, Ronny Markes, and Clifford Starks. So uhhh, yeah. Yoel getting his shot now is a good thing. I think there’s a decent chance this headlines UFC 213 during International Fight Week in July, but Bisping is nursing an injury of some sort that hasn’t been disclosed. Maybe now Anderson Silva will get the GSP fight he’s been waiting for, though!
