State of the Union - Barstool DMV
It’s been almost 3 months since I launched the DMV section of Barstool Sports. Since day 1, we’ve grown steadily, and will continue growing every day. Running Barstool DMV has been my life since the day I was hired. Absolutely 100% committed to bringing the best local (and Florida) stories possible while being as funny as possible. Video taping my TV like a fucking pro. And building the DMV and Barstool community every way possible.
So where do we go from here? We simply continue to grow. It took long enough, but I finally found my Ravens blogger. As terrible as he is at tweeting (@BarstoolBanks), he is really good at writing about the Ravens. Yea sure, bringing in a guy to write about a football team in week 16 wasn’t ideal, but I needed to make sure I had the best writer possible for the job, and I think I found him.
For everyone who says “but Baltimore isn’t in ‘the DMV'”, just relax. “The DMV” is usually DC + the Maryland and Virginia suburbs. We named the site “Barstool DMV” so we could include not just DC, but also Maryland and Virginia. And DMV sounds cooler than saying “Barstool DC/Baltimore” or something like that. So that’s why you’ll read about both the Nationals and Orioles come baseball season.
As we continue to grow, I’ll need more writers. Gotta get dem page views! I need someone to cover the Nationals. Would love someone who could cover all of the local college basketball scene. Maybe the Wizards if they ever do something worth writing about? Who knows.
Few more things:
Clearly, this is a site that is broken up into different cities. Most people who read this site are not from the DMV. So I don’t really expect you to always care about the Redskins or Capitals. So if you enjoy commenting on blogs, you have a couple options: 1) make a comment that starts or carries on a discussion based on the blog, 2) say something original and funny, or 3) say a worn out racist joke and contribute nothing. Obviously, the site grows when the readers who interact are as passionate about the blog as the writer. All the writers used to interact in the comment section, now it hardly ever happens. I know I barely read them at all anymore besides MFKs. Love MFK comments.
Interacting on Twitter with people who read the site and enjoy the blogs is tons of fun. That’s how we will continue to build and grow. Spread the word, get involved, and have fun. If we want more tshirts and other cool shit, we have to continue growing. It’s been a great 3 months, and I can’t wait to see how much bigger we get in the next 3.
I have the best fucking job that I do 24 hours a day because at the end of the day, we all just want to forget about some of life’s bullshit and look at sports, girls, and have a good laugh. So that’s what I try my best to do. Sports, girls, and laughs. I’m comfortable with my height (5’8), my voice (golden), and my face (long), and at the end of the day, I’m paid to make you laugh. So if that helps, great. Can’t wait to make more videos with Golden Voice Productions. And get better at being on video. Cause really, it can’t get worse.
It’s only been 3 months and have great things planned for 2014. So what I need from you guys is to keep keep spreading the word in the DMV, and keep sending in tips. And smokes shows. I know there are more colleges than JMU with grade A certified smokes, so show me. If you see a smoke at a Caps game, tweet it. If you see something funny on the Internet, email it. I don’t want that other DC sports b(l)og to break the news. Send it to me. We have something no other blog on the planet has, so let’s take full advantage of it.
