If They Have A Heart ESPN Needs To Let Barry Melrose Go
As everyone knows by now, ESPN has decided it’s done with hockey. In the midst of the playoffs they’ve decided to layoff a significant portion of its NHL coverage, and the upper echelon of it to boot. Personally, I’ve never really given a fuck about how little ESPN shows hockey. For starters, I really like NHL Network. Also, I’m aware that not many people really like hockey. ESPBN is a business and it’s not their responsibility to promote a sport that doesn’t bring them revenue.
But because they’ve all about announced it’s done with hockey then they need to go all the way with it and release Barry Melrose. He’s a peacock and you’ve gotta let him fly, captain! Barry Melrose is king. He’s a legend of the game. But in Bristol, he’s a ghost. Melrose gets 30 seconds of airtime when he deserves hours.
Barry Melrose is like your buddy who you know is just the bee’s knees but his girlfriend has chopped his balls off, and ESPN is that girlfriend. They hold him back. They don’t let him have fun, or go out, or be himself. If they have a heart (it appears they don’t) then they will free Barry from his shackles and let him go get a job at NHL Network or NBC Sports where he can really prosper and get the love he deserves.
His name is Barry Melrose, not Reek.
Oh, and let him take the NHL on ESPN theme too. Best theme song ever and it’s disgusting it’s just collecting dust.
