San Francisco Is Naming A Street After Barry Bonds

San Francisco Giants v Florida Marlins

Barry Bonds lied, Barry Bonds cheated, Barry Bonds deceived, and Barry Bonds is getting his own street in San Francisco!

This actually doesn’t bother me at all. I just think that it’s funny that he did all of those things and now he’s getting a street named after him. I’m also looking forward to all the fake outrage on the internet over this. He’s not the only San Francisco sports legend who’s getting a street named after them, but obviously his name is the one that’s grabbing all the headlines, because he’s one of the most controversial sports figures in history.

The city of San Francisco is busy undertaking a redevelopment of the site where Candlestick Park — bygone home of the San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants — once stood. A small part of the project is naming streets in the area in honor of 49ers and Giants legends. As ESPN.com reports, Willie McCovey will have a park named after him, and Willie Mays, Orlando Cepeda and Juan Marichal will be getting streets. Also getting a street? Barry Bonds.

You know what my first thought was when I saw this news? Sammy Sosa. I mean, the steroid guys of baseball past were once looked at as if they wore a Scarlett letter and were shunned by the baseball community. Now, we’re at a point where highly suspected PED users are getting into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot, Mark McGwire had been hired by the Cardinals to be their hitting coach, A-Rod has been hired by the Yankees to be a special advisor, and Barry Bonds has also been hired by the Giants to work in their front office, plus get a street named after him. Shit, even Jose Canseco has a broadcasting job with the A’s now. Sammy Sosa can’t even throw out a first pitch at a fuckin’ Cubs spring training game.

There’s something weird going on there in regards to Sosa and the Cubs, because the team avoids that man like the plague. There have been some not so well-kept rumors about Sosa being an asshole during his time in Chicago that might be a reason why he’s not welcome around there the same way that other PED guys are welcome around their former teams.

Either way, I’m a thumbs up on Barry Bonds Street. Yeah, he cheated. Yeah, he lied about cheating. Yeah, he was an asshole during his playing career. But he was the greatest baseball player to ever play the game, in my opinion. He should be in the Hall of Fame, and some day he will be. Roll the video.
