Trey Mancini Makes MLB History As The Orioles End The Blue Jays Season

You hate to see a good group of guys like Jose Bautista, Russell Martin, and Troy Tulowitzki and the Blue Jays limp out to a 2-10 start, you really do. The Orioles took 3 out of 4 from the lowly Blue Jays to push their record to 8-3 as they head into an off day today, and then a series against the surprisingly not in last place Cincinnati Reds. In their win on Sunday, Trey Mancini tied an MLB record. With his second homer in the game (second two-homer game in the last three games), Mancini tied the MLB record for most home runs in a player’s first 12 career games with 7. Not Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, or Barry Bonds is in this club. He joins Trevor Story, Dino Restelli as the only players to do this in MLB history. Pretty insane for a guy who was a late September call up last season and someone who had to murder the ball in Spring Training just to secure a spot on the 25 man roster.

Trey is blocked at his natural position, first, so he made the change to the outfield in the middle of Spring Training, not very easy to do. But his bat is so good, Buck is forced to play him, and it’s paying off. He isn’t just helping himself with these home runs, he is so damn good he is helping his teammates.

Right out of “The Natural”, just unreal. After Mancini’s second bomb of the game, Craig Gentry, a guy who hasn’t hit a home run since 2013 picked up one of Trey’s bats, guess what happened. BONEYARD! Soon after Gentry’s bomb, Manny Machado, who is in a turrrible slump decided to give it a go. Used the same bat from Mancini that Gentry used, guess who broke out of their slump with an opposite shot that hit off the foul pole. Mancini willing Craig Gentry to hit a homer is more impressive than Tim Tebow bringing that guy back to life. What an Easter miracle. He’s also the first player in history with 7 homers and over 15 driven in over their first 12 games. On the season he is now batting .364 with 4 homers, 9 driven in, and an OBP of .417. Much like Spring Training, he is forcing Buck to put him in the lineup. Insanely impressive for a guy to step in right away and make an impact like Trey has. Doesn’t matter where he plays in the field, he’s played first, left, and right, he will show up and hit.

This series was fantastic because the Orioles were one Tyler Wilson meatball away from a sweep of the Jays. Nothing makes me and most other baseball fans happier to see the Jays with the worst record in baseball at 2-10, and already 6.5 back of the Orioles. Josh Donaldson is on the DL, Edwin Encarnacion took his talents to Cleveland, and Jose Bautista who wanted a $150 million contract, now batting .136 with 1 RBI and 15 Ks in 12 games. Jays are dead in the water, with no sign of hope. God damnit I love it. I hope these fake baseball loving fools lose 100 games this season.

Up next for the first place Birds is a trip to Cincinnati to play the 8-5 Reds. Just stay away from the skyline chili.
