MTSU Football Players Suspended For Beating The Shit Out Of A Puppy On SnapChat

WSMV Channel 4

MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) - Two MTSU football players are under investigation for animal cruelty.

A Snapchat video is at the center of it all. Officials said the video was posted on Justin Akins’ social media account last month.

A concerned citizen was able to record the video from her iPad because Snapchat posts disappear after a certain amount of time.

In the video, police said Shalom Alvarez, who is a linebacker for MTSU’s football team, is seen hitting the dog. Police said he grabbed the dog from under the bed and forcefully hit the puppy at least five times. The puppy can be hearing crying in pain with each hit.

Police said Akins, a redshirt senior football player, posted the video with the comment “[Expletive] said you don’t pay rent.”

Well if you’ve been on the fence about whether or not to support the Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders, maybe “in the meantime, both athletes remain on MTSU’s football roster” will help sway you to one side of the fence or the other. Keeping two guys who viciously beat a puppy for peeing on the carpet on the team. And not just that, but FILMED it and sent it around, willingly. A lethal combination of scum and stupidity.

Of course, they went with the “just trying to discipline the dog” excuse (despite the news source saying the puppy didn’t belong to either player…so they were just assisting someone else to train their dog I guess? Nice guys):

Oh, and Akins (who posted the video) was arrested in January for weed and resisting arrest…and was evicted from his apartment for “a shooting incident involving police.”

Looks like we’re dealing with a like, 9 strike policy at MTSU? These guys mess up/beat helpless animals a few more times and they might be looking at a LENGTHY suspension.
