Trey Mancini And The Orioles Mess Around And Hit A Billion Homers, Split Series With Boston

I’ll take a two game split with Boston any day of the week. Game 1 did not go the O’s way as Dylan Bundy took the loss in what went into the seventh as a one run game, and ended as a laugher, 8-1 Red Sox win. Bundy looked like he was going to escape the seventh only down one, but J.J. Hardy booted a routine double play, and it was all downhill from there. Jonathan Schoop misplayed a popup and the floodgates opened. Boston scored three in the seventh, and three in the eighth. Three errors by the defense hurt, but the O’s bats couldn’t do anything against Drew Pomeranz, who was making his season debut.

Game 2 was muchhhhh better. Steven Wright hit Seth Smith with the first knuckleball of the night, and the O’s were off and running. Manny had a ground-rule double to score Smith. After a Chris Davis ground out, Trumbo singled in Manny. Welington Castillo singled to put guys on first and second for Trey Mancini, and Trey went big fly. Almost to the deepest part of the park, deposits it in the seats for his first homer of the year. He tacked another one on later that almost went through some poor Masshole sitting on the monster. Adam Jones also hit one that landed in Jared’s front yard, and Chris Davis added a homer for good measure. O’s came into the game with five homers this season, and doubled that by the end of the third inning.

Ubaldo Jimenez tried his best to lose this game for the Orioles, but that wasn’t happening. But seriously, how do you have a nine run lead and can’t make it out of the fifth? Give me a god damn break Ubaldo. He went 4.1, 8 hits, and 5 runs before getting yanked. The guy stinks, his ERA is over 10 in his two starts this season. Good news for the Orioles is that this is the last year of his deal, bad news is that he probably has 33 more starts this season. He’s awful, no one in orange and black has any confidence when he is up on the mound. The Sox were able to cut it to 9-5 and I would have bet my life that Ubaldo would have given it up. I have to mention this again, HE HAD A 9 RUN LEAD AND DIDN’T QUALIFY FOR A WIN. Counting down the starts until Ubaldo is not on my team anymore….This goes back to what I was saying the other day, starters HAVE to go deeper into games. There is no reason the Orioles should have burned three bullpen guys with a four game set against Toronto coming up. Thanks, Ubaldo. Mychal Givens was huge tonight, plugging the hole when the Sox were coming back, he got some much needed outs and did the damn thing.

Despite Ubaldo’s best efforts, the Orioles pulled it out in the end by the score of 12-5. A couple tack on runs by Welington Castillo helped pad the lead and gave the Birds some breathing room. There were seven different Orioles with 2 hits or more, and seven guys drove in runs. The Orioles were able to tough up Steven Wright, who had owned them previously, to the tune of eight runs, eight hits, and four homers in just an inning and 1/3. It was nice to see their bats come alive, especially against a tough knuckler.

O’s now head up to Toronto for four, this is your reminder that the Blue Jays are 1-7. And I can tell you that 0 people feel sorry for them. Just have to hope the Orioles starters can actually make it into the seventh and help out this bullpen. First place O’s sitting at 5-2 on the season.
