Nerd/Genius Inmates Built Computers To Watch Porn And Learn How To Make Drugs And Explosives

BBC - A prison work programme has backfired, after two inmates in the US state of Ohio built computers from PCs they were supposed to be dismantling for recycling. The unsupervised inmates later hid the PCs in the ceiling of a training room. Investigators found software, pornography and articles about making drugs and explosives on the machines.

After investigating the source of the network traffic, a member of the IT staff and two other inmates who were with him found a network cable leading up into the ceiling. “When I removed the ceiling tiles I found two PCs hidden in the ceiling on two pieces of plywood,” the staff member wrote in an incident report. A trove of data was discovered on the machines, including records of passes being issued for inmates so they could access various parts of the prison. Forensic analysis of the hard drives also found pornography, articles about making drugs, explosives and credit cards.

You know what? When I first started writing this blog, I was thinking about what geeks these guys are. How while all the other inmates are doing manly things like lifting weights and getting tattoos and having anal sex, these losers are holed up in their jail cell, building computers like a bunch of nerds. But then I realized, shit, this is the new ecosystem of jail in 2017. You need to have the people up top pulling strings and making things happen. Need to have the guys in suits printing out the porno and learning how to make jailhouse hooch. You see, a jail is it’s own ecosystem. If everyone was pumping iron, nobody would be jerking off. If everyone was playing cards for cigarettes, nobody would be drinking fermented piss. So while the jail nerds aren’t getting picked first for basketball and definitely are sleeping with one eye open at night, they are doing their jail community a big service which should not be overlooked.
