Dave Dombrowski Says 'Nothing On Jackie Bradley's MRI Indicates Disabled List Needed', Bradley To The Disabled List The Next Day

One of these days, this Red Sox team is gonna catch a break, and it’s gonna be great.

Before the season even started, they had David Price going to see Dr. James Andrews, lost their setup man in Tyler Thornburg for a month, still waiting for Carson Smith to come back from Tommy John surgery last year, then the flu bug hit and took out Mitch Moreland, Mookie Betts, Hanley Ramirez, Andrew Benintendi, Joe Kelly, Robbie Ross Jr., and Brock Holt. Then, the team also lost both Xander Bogaerts and Matt Barnes to the bereavement list. Oh, and Bogaerts was actually supposed to be back today, but he sat on the plane for two hours before they cancelled the flight from Aruba to Detroit. He’ll be back in Boston tomorrow. Maybe.

And now this — Jackie Bradley Jr. hyperextended his knee rounding first base and sprained a ligament in his right knee. He had an MRI out in Detroit, which Dave Dombrowski saw and relayed to GBOB that nothing on the MRI indicated to him that the disabled list would be needed. The very next day, Bradley was placed on the 10-day disabled list. Fantastic.

This is why the Red Sox get made fun of so much when it comes to injury diagnosis. They quite literally have no idea what the fuck is going on. Like, ever. It’s incredible. I’m hoping this is just a minor speed bump in the road for JBJ, because I’m still in the mindset that this is going to be an even bigger breakout season for him than last year, when he hit 26 bombs and drove in 87 runs. I think he’s capable of even more. And you could compile a defensive highlight reel of Bradley that’s more impressive than most major league outfielders’ entire careers just from using the four games that Bradley’s played in prior to the knee injury. Dude’s a star.

As far as what the Red Sox will do while Bradley’s on the shelf, I think we got a little preview of that today with Benintendi getting the start in center, while Chris Young was out in left.

Tomorrow. Game recaps always come the next day, because it’s 2017, and baseball statistic websites still haven’t figured out how to update their data until the next day. It’s fucking baffling, to be honest.
