DJ Duo "Vicetone" Handcuffed and Dragged Off Stage At A University of Alabama Frat Party For Telling The Crowd To "Put Yo Hands Up!"
People – A DJ duo claim that they were handcuffed and dragged off stage at a University of Alabama frat party after telling revelers to “put yo’ hands up” during their performance.
Vicetone, real names Ruben Den Boer and Victor Pool, tweeted, “So I just got handcuffed and dragged off stage at this college party for ‘inciting a riot’ by yelling something like ‘put yo hands up.’ ”
The Dutch duo followed up the tweet at 1:15 a.m. Saturday by saying, “Obviously got released cause I did nothing wrong – also huge shoutout to University of Alabama for throwing down tonight.”
A video of the Tuscaloosa party posted on Twitter shows one of the duo on stage in a hospital gown drinking 4 Loko, which is a combination of malt liquor and caffeine.
Best thing that could ever happen to Vicetone. Not exactly a household name outside of frat parties and Kmarko’s #BlogMusic playlist on Spotify. Want to go a little more mainstream? Get handcuffed and dragged off stage by the cops, tweet about it and get picked up by People magazine. Watch the 14-25 year old female demographic explode. Boom. Well played. Same demo that’s carrying The Chainsmokers to a bajillion dollars and SNL appearances.
A University of Alabama police officer told PEOPLE that neither Den Boer nor Pool were arrested, but said officers were called to the party for “crowd control.”
In a statement, the university said, “According to campus officials, the party continued past the designated curfew. As the music was turned off and party was being shut down because of the curfew violation, the DJs interfered and began to incite the crowd.
“To ensure safety and assist the officers, one of the DJs was briefly restrained and taken off stage while the crowd was being dispersed. They were not arrested. The incident had nothing to do with what the DJ said, only that he interfered with the process of ending the party.”
Not to get off track from Vicetone but since I just mentioned it I had to ask, did people catch that SNL? Chainsmokers performances were LOL funny.
Wish somebody would have handcuffed them and dragged them off. Put in 2 more Louis sketches instead. But I digress.
