ESPN FCLeicester manager Craig Shakespeare has said he helped talk Jamie Vardy out of quitting football in 2013 to work in Ibiza as a party rep.

Vardy joined Leicester, who were then in the second tier of English football, from Fleetwood in 2012 for a fee reported to be £1 million.

However, he struggled during his first season in professional football and only scored five goals, leading to him considering his future until Shakespeare and then manager Nigel Pearson convinced him of his potential.

Vardy had said: “The move to Leicester wasn’t working out for anybody and I didn’t see any value in going through the motions for the final few months of the season. I was in a downward spiral, where I was drinking too much — some of it home-brewed — and not scoring nearly enough.

He said he had visited Ibiza with Stocksbridge reserves in 2007 and then again in 2008 with his friends “and it represented nonstop partying in my eyes.”

In the book, Vardy also recalled the time ahead of the 2010-11 season that he was asked on camera if he could clarify whether he would stay at Halifax Town and replied: “No, I’m signing for Ibiza Town. I’m going to Ibiza on holiday and I’m never coming back!”

How much does Jamie Vardy love Ibiza? Seems like he’s in the wrong line of work. Knows he’d rather be on the d-floor of Pacha, rolling face to Avicii till 6AM, than scoring 24 goals in the greatest Cinderella season in sports history. Wanted to be a club promoter, rounding up girls on the beach with a promise of “jumping the queue” and one free bottle to start. And man, does he look the part or what?

Can’t you just picture this guy in that shitty English-dude nightclubbing outfit? Tight v-neck T, jeans, and proper shoes (no trainers! Ever!)

Apparently, in 2013, he’d had enough of Leicester’s mediocrity. Buried in the obscurity of England’s 2nd tier league, he was brewing his own moonshine (?) and longing for the bleary-eyed, ear-ringing sunrises of Ibiza’s nightlife. Luckily, some coaches were on hand to talk him down from becoming Bobby Bottle Service. And of course, we all know the story from there: Leicester gets promoted in 2014 to the Premier League, escapes relegation in 2015, and wins the league in 2016 against 5000-1 odds, thanks largely to 24 goals from Jamie Vardy. Oh, and he lands himself a starting spot on the national team for his efforts.
