Wake Up With Javy Lopez Hitting His Record 43rd Home Run Of The Season (2003)

I don’t wanna say that Yankee fans are delusional — because he very well could, and I don’t think that would surprise anybody — but any conversation that you have with a Yankee fan about Gary Sanchez in 2017 is going to consist of them telling you that he’s going to hit 40 home runs this year. Again, I’m not saying he won’t do that. It’s just a high number to shoot for, especially because he’s a catcher. That got me thinking — when’s the last time that a catcher hit 40 home runs? The answer to that question is Javy Lopez in 2003 (43), his final season with the Atlanta Braves, although he might’ve had a little help that year — cough, cough. It’s not easy to catch 120+ games, and still have the energy/strength to blast 40 bombs. But if there’s a catcher in the league right now that’s capable of doing what Lopez did in 2003, it’s El Gary.
