Get Hyped, The Korean Zombie Returns TONIGHT!
As everyone knows, Houston is hosting a one of the biggest sporting events of the year this weekend. UFC Fight Night 104. That is a joke about the Super Bowl. Thanks.
Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez (-188) vs The Korean Zombie (+175)
After leaving the UFC due to injuries and two mandatory years of military service, Chan Sung Jung, AKA “The Korean Zombie” is sticking his MMA glove out of the ground. If you’re a newer fan unfamiliar with the Zombie, here’s a quick highlight reel of his insane fights, complete with perfect hardo music backing it…
The “Korean Zombie” nickname obviously comes from his ability to just power through being absolutely rocked and use it to his advantage. He’s one of the most entertaining fighters I’ve ever watched, and he’s also the only person in UFC history to ever finish a fight with a twister. It’s a fucking crazy move.
The man welcoming the Zombie back is no pushover, however. Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez (real creative nickname, bro) was a finalist on the 14th season of The Ultimate Fighter and the 9th ranked featherweight in the UFC. He’s fought seven times since Jung left, so he’s gonna look to exploit that ring rust with his signature takedowns. Dennis works a relentless grinding pace in the octagon, so cardio is going to tell the story of this fight. Bermudez is also running the risk of getting caught in a wild submission if (when) he shoots for takedowns.
There’s a very real chance that Zombie isn’t the same fighter he was four years ago when he was ranked fifth and just standing and banging with everyone, but for now, I’m just gonna ride the nostalgia wave and block that thought out of my brain.
Chan Sung Jung def. Dennis Bermudez via submission
Alexa Grasso (-302) vs Felice “Lil Bulldog” Herrig (+280)
This feels like a classic UFC elevation fight, and by that I mean it was booked with the intention of Alexa Grasso winning. She’s a new prospect with a record of 9-0 (1-0 in the UFC) and the company would love to make her a star…because of her fighting. Definitely because of her fighting.
Maybe also because she’s a smoke. With Paige VanZant possibly having one foot out the door, Dana is looking for the next marketable chick to promote. Grasso also fights out of and is native to Mexico, making her a potentially huge draw there. By no means am I saying Felice Herrig is a bad fighter, but she’s not on the level of Alexa. UFC knows what they’re doing here.
Alexa Grasso def. Felice Herrig via unanimous decision
Abel “Killa” Trujillo (+100) vs James “The Texecutioner” Vick (-110)
I can’t believe these two men are in the same weight class.
Abel Trujillo is 10-2 in the UFC, and his only two losses are to Khabib Nurmagamedov and Tony Ferguson (the two men that will meet next month for the Interim Lightweight Championship). He’s a beast and never really gets the credit I feel he deserves. Vick is really solid as well, but really had a bad last fight against Beneil Dariush, and I can’t see him putting up with Killa’s volume or takedowns.
Abel Trujillo def. James Vick via TKO
Picks for the rest of the card:
Ovince Saint Preux (-315) def. Volkan Oezdemir (+290)
Anthony Hamilton (-190) def. Marcel Fortuna (+185)
Jessica Andrade (-500) def. Angela Hill (+450) (and she’ll look extra silly for doing this Street Fighter shit)
Curtis Blaydes (-250) def. Adam Milstead (+270)
Chas Skelly (-250) def. Chris Gruetzmacher (+230)
Ricardo Lucas Ramos (+130) def. Michinori Tanaka (-140)
Tecia Torres (-280) def. Bec Rawlings (+255)
Alex Morono (+105) def. Niko Price (-105)
Daniel Jolly (+140) def. Khalil Rountree (-145)
