Edmonton Oilers' Pat Maroon Gets A Little Emotional After Scoring A Goal In Front Of His Son

For as much as we want to Make Hockey Violent Again… moments like this are just as great as some big time hits and heavyweight tilts. Patrick Maroon isn’t known as a goal scorer in this league. He’s a grinder by every sense of the word. Heart, grit, passion, high energy. Just not known for scoring goals. He’s on pace to have the best season of his career right now with 9 goals through 34 games so far, but the most he’s ever scored in a season is 11. So it’s pretty great that on one of the goals he does score this year, he gets to have this reaction in the stands.

If you listened to the most recent episode of Spittin’ Chiclets, you heard Colby Armstrong talk about how his son will watch clips of him on YouTube but it’s nothing but hits. Which is still cool for your son to see how much of a bad ass you were in the league, but Army got his people at Sportsnet to through together a few clips of him actually scoring so he could show his son that he could actually play in the league as well. So years from now the only thing most of us will remember about Pat Maroon is some hits, a few fights, and that time he got everybody’s panties in a bunch by calling the NHL “a man’s game”. But his son will get this memory of watching his dad score in his hometown barn. And that’s pretty fuckin’ sweet.

P.S. – How about St. Louis becoming a hockey hot bed in America? There were 5 kids from St. Louis drafted in the 1st round last June. Matthew Tkachuk, Clayton Keller, Logan Brown, Luke Kunin and Trent Frederic. Then you’ve got Pat Maroon and then you’ve got our boy Riggsy. It may not be Minnesota, Michigan or Massachussettes just yet. But Missouri might just be the next ‘M’ state to add to the list of hockey hot beds.

P.P.S. – Shoutout to Sportsnet’s Gene Principe for knowing when to cut that interview short.
