Tiger Officially Signs On With Bridgestone To Use Their Golf Balls
CNBC- Tiger Woods, who was once one of the most marketable athletes in the world, has signed a new multiyear deal with Bridgestone Golf to exclusively play and promote its golf ball line. As part of deal, the former No. 1 golfer in the world will play with Bridgestone’s B330-S golf balls. Woods has been on the hunt for new equipment makers since August, when his longtime brand Nike unexpectedly announced it was ceasing production of golf equipment. He has not announced his choice of golf clubs. “Tiger did extensive testing with the golf ball. He was very diligent and tested with a number of competitive golf balls. In the end, he felt the Bridgestone 330s fit his game the best,” his longtime agent Mark Steinberg told CNBC. As part of the agreement, the winner of 14 major championships and 79 PGA Tour events will also be featured in digital, social, print and broadcast marketing globally for Bridgestone.
Alright so there’s gonna be a lot of news like this in the coming year. News of Tiger signing with different golf brands after Nike announced in August that they were bowing out of the golf equipment game. The first domino to fall is what ball Tiger is going to play with in 2017 and beyond. Turns out it’s the Bridgestone B330-S. It’s the same golf ball he used when he played in the Hero World Challenge a couple weeks ago. I don’t actually give a shit about what ball Tiger uses as long as he’s comfortable with it. He shot a 65 on Friday at the Hero World Challenge with a Bridgestone so I’ll take that as a positive. I’m actually most curious to see if this results in a huge bump in sales for Bridgestone golf balls. It obviously can’t hurt cause Tiger is Tiger but Tiger isn’t THAT Tiger anymore. He’s the guy who literally made Nike golf equipment relevant and then, not by coincidence, was the result of Nike’s equipment downfall when he was no longer THAT guy for a long stretch. It’ll be really interesting to see how this arrangement plays out for Bridgestone.
This announcement also marks the end of an era. The end of The Swoosh era involving Tiger Woods. An era that saw some of the best golf in the history of the sport. I’m not gonna lie, I’m a little sad The Swoosh and Tiger won’t be playing together anymore. They were the most steady thing in my life for a long time. A sad day indeed. Here is EASILY the most iconic shot Tiger ever hit with a Nike ball. The fact that the ball just sat on the edge of the cup then flashed The Swoosh as it went in had to have Nike headquarters covered in semen
