Morehead State Head Coach Sean Woods Charged with Battery for Fight with a Player
Well, this is something you don’t see well, uh, ever. Morehead State head coach Sean Woods was charged with battery for a fight with a former player during a game at Evansville. WKYT is Evansville is reporting he’s being charged with misdemeanor battery for backhanding former player Malik Maitland in the chest. One can only assume Woods broke out a Ric Flair woo after the backhand. On top of that Soufiyane Diakte said Woods shoved him twice during the game.
Is any of this anything insane? No. I mean he’s not punching anyone. But, you can’t be backhanding dudes if you’re a college coach. How do you walk into a recruiting trip and tell a parent you’ll take care of their son? How do you go back to coaching this team? It would take a long time for Woods to get a coaching gig anywhere else, especially when you remember four years ago he made a player cry on the bench during a game at Kentucky.
I’m quite certain this is the first time we’ve seen a head coach have to face charges for fighting one of his players during the season. In fact I don’t know if we’ve seen any sort of thing like this since maybe Bobby Knight?
Needless to say Sean Woods might have a screw loose.
