Authorities Are Said To Be Looking Into How A Bunch Of Prison Inmates Did A Mannequin Challenge

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Inmates at a Southern California prison are under investigation for taking part in a “mannequin challenge” video inside a prison dorm. The one-minute video shows inmates in several frozen stances — one in the bathroom, others fighting and one holding a prohibited cellphone. It had been viewed more than 100,000 times on YouTube by Tuesday. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokeswoman Terry Thornton says one inmate has been transferred from a dorm setting to an individual cell as part of an ongoing investigation. Thornton says the video was taken in November inside the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego.

First of all, we all know how these inmates did this. We’ve all seen enough prison dramas to know that people sneak everything from cell phones to drugs to shanks into prisons by way of their assholes. That’s no mystery and for the authorities to be like, “Man, we have no idea how this happened” is insane. Most of the prison guards coordinate with the inmates to get stuff in and get a cut of what they sell. Don’t lie to my face like that. I’ve seen Oz and The Wire. Two, the most impressive thing is how on top of the internet these inmates are. In my head, the Mannequin Challenge wouldn’t penetrate prison walls until like 2018. I thought we’d already be a few internet trends removed before a video like that came out. Nope. The article says that video was taken in November. I think those prison inmates did the challenge before the Barstool office did one. The inmates are probably working on the Chuck E. Cheese challenge as we speak. I guess what I’m saying is good for them. They may be criminals but they aren’t asleep at the wheel when it comes to hot internet trends.
