We've Got The Dash Cam Video From Jung Ho Kang's DUI Accident

In case you missed it last night, Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang had his second run-in with the law. The first time was a sexual assault, which you can read about here. This time, he was driving drunk, crashed into a guard rail and then fled the scene. Here’s a translation of that video above from a Reddit user:

Long story short what they are saying is that Kang consumed alcohol at a friend’s house and was riding back to his hotel in the BMW (rent car), when he plunged into the guard rail. Some of the pieces from the rail ended up hitting one of the cars seen on the opposite side of the road. The driver of the damaged vehicle called the police, which led to them investigating and ultimately locating the BMW parked in Kang’s hotel parking lot. Initially when confronted by the police, Kang’s friend told the police that he was the driver, but the police realized that it was actually Kang who was driving upon reviewing the dashcam footage retrieved from the BMW. They said there will be further investigation soon.

A for effort on the attempted coverup, but whaaaaaat an IDIOT. Not that an apology could really do much for his image at the moment, but Kang did release a statement after the incident.

“I’d like to apologize to everyone who is disappointed with me. Today, I got behind the wheel after drinking, and committed an irrevocable mistake. I panicked at the moment of the accident and did something that I never should have done. I am deeply regretting the incident. I will humbly accept whatever punishment is deemed fit for my actions.”

Pirates president Frank Coonelly released a statement, too, talking about how disappointed he is, but it’s pretty hypocritical to criticize Kang’s poor “decision process” when Coonelly got bagged on four DUI-related charges back in 2012.
