The Celtics Have Broken Ground On A New Practice Facility In Brighton

BOSTON, MA – The 17-time NBA Champion Boston Celtics and NB Development Group LLC announced today that Boston Landing, a mixed-used development in the Allston-Brighton neighborhood of Boston, will become the home of the Celtics’ new world-class practice and training facility.

”We are proud to team with New Balance Development in the creation of a best-in-class athletic training and practice facility that will provide Celtics players, coaches, and training staff with the resources, technology, and programming to compete at the highest level in an increasingly competitive NBA landscape,” said Rich Gotham, President of the Boston Celtics. “The Boston Landing location will bring us closer to our game day home at the TD Garden while providing high impact brand visibility.”

The Boston Celtics practice facility will be the latest dramatic element at Boston Landing — at 55 feet in the air cantilevered out to the edge of the Mass Pike. The Celtics new practice home, including the team’s 17 NBA championship banners, will be highly visible from the Massachusetts Turnpike with a forty foot glass wall enclosing the practice courts that face the approximately 130,000 daily commuters. The practice facility will encompass approximately 70,000 square feet.

Say goodnight Waltham because the Boston Celtics are moving. Only fitting that a group of young 20 something kids move to Brighton as they figure out their new city. If there’s one thing that gets the blood flowing, it’s futuristic stadium/arena/practice facility renderings, and this one does not disappoint. In fact, almost a year ago we talked about the changes the Garden will be receiving over the next few years.

In looking at this new gem for the Celtics, something stood out. Did they copy the Bruins?

Either way, both are sweet. So what does your taxpayer money get you?

If it seems like NBA teams are becoming more like colleges and creating these state of the art facilities in order to attract premiere talent, that’s because it’s probably true. Everybody knows no big time free agent will consider your team if you don’t have only the freshest, softest towels in the locker room.

Construction is slated to begin this Fall and run through Spring 2018 which is comical because construction is always so smooth and timely in this city. I haven’t seen how much money this is going to cost, but it’s probably an outrageous number just to practice.

Whatever though, if it brings someone in, or makes the players better I’m all for it. Also, don’t think I didn’t notice this little guy in the upper right corner
