Derrick Rose Cleared Of All Charges In Sexual Assault Civil Trial

So that is the end of that. I think. I’m honestly not sure if you can appeal a civil suit or not. But like any rape case, the whole process has just been so ugly. Between this trial and the Presidential race, I’ve had enough mud slinging to last me a lifetime. I also haven’t heard any updates about the criminal trial and have no idea if this effects it at all (I don’t think it does). But I can’t imagine it’s easy to be found not liable in a civil case but found guilty in a criminal. As the Barstool OJ Simpson buff, I will remind you that OJ was found not guilty in his criminal case but found liable in the wrongful death suit filed by Ron Goldman’s family. So it is possible to win one case while losing the other (even though OJ also had a mountain of evidence against him in both trials with the best legal team money could buy only in the criminal case).

And don’t forget that we also have the whole “one of the detectives in the case was found dead” story lingering above everything in the Rose criminal case. Which again boggles my mind that the Knicks didn’t do their due diligence investigating this case before trading for Rose. I say this every blog but it’s true. A bonehead non-move by a bonehead organization. Okay, that was enough legalese from a big dumb blogger like myself.

Anyway, as the Knicks blogger for the site, it is time for me to focus on Rose playing on the Knicks. Him not being around for most of the preseason and missing a ton of practice time obviously was no bueno. But I guess the spinzone is that it’s much harder to get injured in a court room than it is on a basketball court during the preseason. So I guess that’s a positive? We heard Jeff Hornacek wasn’t going to install the offense until Rose returns. So the sooner Derrick can get out of his court clothes and into a Knicks jersey and start getting ready for the regular season the better it is for the team. Time to focus on basketball and just hope that these allegations weren’t true to begin with. Because they were ugly.
