Exclusive Interview With Carson Wentz's Childhood Best Friend Who Was Behind The Trick Shot Video
A week or so ago, a fake trick shot video featuring a high school aged mop-topped Carson Wentz emerged. If you missed it, the video, it’s pretty electric.
I couldn’t get my mind off the video. It seemed to have so many clues about the upbringing of the young stud Carson Wentz. I needed to know more. So, in the quest for knowledge, I tracked down the man behind the video Kam Wingenbach. Kam’s YouTube channel also houses a scintillating highlight video of young Carson, but the video was not enough.
I had to get in contact with Kam. And through my true gumshoe sleuthing (typing his name into my search bar), I had a contact. But the olive branch alone was not enough. My initial attempts at an interview were rebuffed. It was not until I made promises and offers (that I was not cleared or authorized to make) of great riches, that I secured the exclusive with young Carson’s bffaeaeae.
?
So without further ado, some words from the desk of Kam WIngenbach.
So your childhood best friend Carson Wentz just graduated from college to have one of the most prestigious and exclusive jobs in the world. What are you up to these days?
I am currently in my last year of college finishing up my accounting degree at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Yeah, not the Bison but the Fighting Hawks (formerly Fighting Sioux).
How did you and Carson meet? Whats your earliest memory with him?
Carson and I had known each other through elementary school sports but actually met each other officially in 7th grade. We were in the same Tech Ed class and decided to be partners for a project building some kind of robot thing if I’m not mistaken. I can’t remember exactly but I do remember getting an A and having the coolest robot in the class thanks to his outstanding leadership.
Why? Why did you make this video?
There was actually a group of guys that we were friends with in high school that made trick shot videos similar to Dude Perfect. They called themselves “St3althShotz” and had made shirts and everything. One boring Saturday in Bismarck, North Dakota we decided to poke a little fun at their videos by making our video with a twist. (Remember this was before the “Haters gonna say its fake” videos). So we borrowed some extra small St2althShotz shirts from a few girls and taped “Garb” over Stealth and taped “Trash” on the back where it said “Straight Cash Homie.” We took the day taping and editing and then submitted it to our Comedy Show at Bismarck Century High School. Some people thought it was kind of funny but most people just thought it was “fake and lame” or “fake as shit.” It never really blew up…until 5 years later.
Who else is in the cast?
Tom “Everytine” Keller. He actually straight up made all of his shots in the video with no editing. Pretty impressive. And we also had help with the camera work from a few girls: Melissa, Tessa, and Tessa. (ED. NOTE: NICEE)
Any other videos that didn’t make it to YouTube?
Not that I know of. We never got around to making the sequel.
I saw Carson made the NFL, I saw you hadn’t conquered that mountain (yet); what do you think sets you apart athletically?
Sets me apart? I would say what really sets me apart is my speed. It sets me a great distance apart from most people, like way apart from them… mostly behind them. Some people may say that I’m “sneaky fast” but I like to say that I’m just sneaky. Other than the speed, the arm, the strength, and the hair, we are about on par with each other athletically.
North Dakota seems to get a bad rap, in that there is nothing to do up there. How accurate or inaccurate is that statement?
It does get a bad rap but growing up I never felt like I was missing out on anything. We were able to go to the Missouri River in the summer to hang out with friends, go to the mall, attend high school sports, bike around town, go to movies, freeze to death in the winter. Hunting and fishing is big around here and people love it. Carson would always get the guys together to play pickup football, baseball, and basketball games or do anything outside. There are many more pros than cons in living here. It is nice to be able to drive without sitting through an hour of traffic. It is nice to be able to be friendly to people that you don’t know. It is nice to be able to raise a family without having to worry about crimes being committed. At least it’s better than South Dakota.
When did you know that he was a special talent athletically?
He has always been a gifted talent but when I really noticed was when he hit his growth spurt late in high school and physically towered over everyone, gaining more and more strength and speed in the process. I knew he would be a successful college football player, but he would’ve also been an outstanding baseball player. Playing receiver for him was a treat and I’m glad that things worked out the way they did for him going to NDSU and now Philly.
The shot of Carson peering around the corner in that video was pretty goofy. It makes me more comfortable that my quarterback is a funny guy. Was he a goofy guy growing up?
He was very goofy. But goofy in a normal guy way. We would laugh all the time over some of the dumbest things and get pissed at each other playing Madden or pickup basketball games just like every other normal dudes do. He’s got a great sense of humor.

Carson is said to listen to praise music before games: who is your favorite praise artist?
I can’t name very many to be honest but I’d have to go with Chance The Rapper.
Reports came out that Carson slept on blow up mattress during college. Any word on whether or not he’s ditched the mattress?
Pretty sure that was only a temporary thing but I bet he is sleeping in a bed now or maybe in the quarterbacks room.
If YOU were to make it pro or suddenly come into a bunch of money, what kind of things would you do for or with your childhood friends?
I have no idea, I’m just trying to make it through college still so I can eventually make some money some day.
What is the coolest sports memory that you have growing up with Carson, something that didn’t make it onto film?
One of my favorite sports memories was our high school homecoming football game against Minot where he threw a Hail Mary in the endzone to end the half and I came down with it. Another cool memory is winning the state basketball championship with him being a key player for us.
Big in for ND yesterday. How bout ‘dem Bison?
If anyone was really that surprised about the win over Iowa, you haven’t been paying attention. That is one hell of a program and it is something that all of us in North Dakota are proud of.
Can you leave us with a prediction for tonights Eagles Bears game?
31-21 Eagles. I am looking forward to it and as a lifetime Vikings fan, I’m always rooting against the Bears.
