Explosion Reported In Manhattan's Chelsea Neighborhood

If you have any info about the explosion, call the number below.

NY Post- A dumpster blew up at 8:30 p.m. Saturday night in Chelsea, blowing out the lower windows of a 14-story residence for the blind. At least 26 suffered minor injuries from what may have been an explosive device, police sources told The Post.

The explosion, described by one neighbor as “deafening,” happened outside the Associated Blind Housing facility at 135 W. 23rd Street. The facility provides housing, training and other services for the blind. According to police radio transmissions, the people inside the facility have been initially told to remain inside as police began their investigation. Two buildings to the east of the facility were being evacuated. No fires have been reported, but multiple emergency vehicles, including ambulances, rushed to the scene.

Details are still coming in, but from what I can gather an explosion occurred in a dumpster. No clue if it was a bomb or what. But it sounds like the NYPD and the bomb squad are investigating matters now.

It appears that none of the 20+ injuries are life-threatening, so that’s a positive. And according to this tweet, New Yorkers’ resolve doesn’t appear to have been shaken.

I love New York.

This lady’s account of the blast was very useful.

Tonight’s explosion comes after a report of a pipe bomb being detonated during a Marine Corps charity run earlier in the day in Seaside Park, NJ.

An explosion that went off in a garbage can Saturday morning in a New Jersey beach town likely was timed to disrupt a Marine Corps charity run, authorities said.

Three pipe-bomb-type devices wired together were found near the boardwalk in Seaside Park. No injuries were reported and a four-block area was evacuated for most of the day, authorities said.
An initial examination showed the devices were rudimentary, with some type of timer, and only one of them detonated, two federal law enforcement officials told CNN.

Again, the cause of the explosions or if there was any intent doesn’t seem to be known as of now. But in 2016, our guards are always up. Everyone be careful out there.

UPDATE: A second device that was not detonated is reportedly being investigated

And the mayor is saying no link to terrorism as of now.
