Wilmer Flores Is Now Using The "Friends" Theme Song As His Batting Music

Newsday- Have you heard The One Where Wilmer Flores Learns English by Watching “Friends”? The story begins in Savannah, Georgia, where a teenage Wilmer Flores, playing minor-league ball for the Mets, found comfort in tracking the lives of a bunch of 20-somethings living in Manhattan. That he had nothing in common with the people on the screen meant little to Flores, who was fighting homesickness after leaving his native Venezuela.

Years later, Flores still feels a connection to the show. During Sunday’s nationally televised game, he debuted new walk-up music: “I’ll Be There for You” by the Rembrandts, the theme song to “Friends.” “It’s one of my favorite shows,” said Flores, who, like many, became a fan of Rachel Green, portrayed by Jennifer Aniston. “I watch it every day before I go to sleep. It’s on Netflix. It’s on Nick at Nite every night.” Flores, 25, has seen all 236 episodes, so his homage Sunday was no surprise. It’s the show that wound up becoming his gateway into learning a whole new culture.

If the baseball gods are going to keep shitting on the Mets with new injuries every day, I guess the boys in orange and blue will have to keep fighting back with fire entrance songs. The easiest way to turn bad mojo into good mojo is changing. Day 1 baseball stuff. First Yo brought Pride Rock to Flushing and now Wilmer is dropping one of the all-time great TV themes ever. I guess those two songs combined equal one Holiday Road. Who needs Harvey, deGrom, or Wheeler when you have Seth Lugo and nostalgic songs hanging out the anus?

And the mere thought of Wilmer learning American culture through Jennifer Aniston’s nipples poking through her shirt and talking like Chandler is flat out hilarious. Wilmer probably tried to pick up his first American chick with a “How YOU DOING?” And I bet the only thing that kept Wilmer from completely breaking down during that crying fit last year was the thought that if Ross and Rachel could get back together, so could he and the Mets. Thank you Wilmer for saving the season with yet another rallying cry. I don’t know how the Mets make a deep run in October with this band of misfits, but I do know why. Old school TV and movie songs. Next stop: The Wildcard Game.

Also say what you want about Friends, but that song will always a banger. I liked the first few seasons before it became a straight up girl show, so I obviously hate on my wife whenever she’s watching it. But I secretly do the *clap clap clap clap* to myself every time the theme song is playing. And even though it’s Monday, here’s a little #BarstoolConfession. I bought The Rembrandts album just because I loved the Friends song so much. Purchases like that are the reason I never felt bad about using Limewire for my music needs back in the day.
