How About The Lady Golfers Playing The Rio Olympic Course 1,000 Yards Shorter Than The Men?

One Month Out, Rio Continues Preparations For The 2016 Olympics

So I’ve got the Golf Channel on in the background and all the sudden I hear the women are playing the Rio Olympic course 1,000 yards shorter than the men. Now look, I get that women don’t hit it as far as the men and therefore you shrink the course so it plays similarly for women. You want the same clubs into greens. You want similar strategy.

But 1,000 yards shorter? That’s the biggest kick in the V I’ve ever seen. It’s embarrassing. You don’t see Furyk playing different tees because Rory hits it 100 yards farther. You don’t see lady swimmers swimming in little short ass pools. They swim the exact same pool, the exact same distances, the exact same strokes — whatever the times are, that’s what the times are. Simple. I’m sure when midgets try their hand in competitive swimming they don’t just swim back and forth in the hot tub. In the 100-meter freestyle event the female winner came in about 5 seconds slower than the men’s. That’s fine. Times will be different because men are faster and the highlight of the Olympics so far has been Lilly King conquering Russia.

But making the course a million yards shorter is just a blatant and unnecessary reminder that men are better at sports than women. Period. It’s like coddling them. Some things just are the way they are. Women look better naked. Women connive better. Women are better Instagram models. Men do sports better.

The last time the men and women did something like this was the 2014 US Open. The men played Pinehurst one week, the women played it the following week. I remember my gf at the time being like “omg did you see the women played the same course as the men they’re like the same I hate how everyone says the men are like so much better.” Uhhh hey dumbass it wasn’t the same course it was like a million yards shorter and the chicks were worse.

Bottom line is if I’m Lydia Ko or any lady golfer with self respect I head out to the first tee, walk back to the tips, put my tee in the ground and play it in from there. If you want to penalize me for being too badass and fighting for gender equality go for it. If everyone wants to claim men and women are playing the same course then have them actually play the same damn course.

PPS — Main point of this blog is lady golf would actually be watchable TV if they were out there shooting 85 on the men’s course. Hitting driver off the deck into par 4s and playing par 5s as four-shot holes? Must see TV.
