Wake Up With The Mariners' Sixth Walk-Off Home Run Of The Season
This was the sixth walk-off home run of the season for the Seattle Mariners, and their second of this series alone. No other team in the game has had more than three walk-off homers all year. The Mariners have been one of the more disappointing teams for me this season. I had high hopes for them, given that they had one of the better run differentials in the league early on (and still do), but that hasn’t really been reflected in the win column to this point.
I guess we can give them somewhat of a pass, because they’ve been without their ace Felix Hernandez since May 27, but Hernandez made his return to the mound in a fairly unimpressive fashion yesterday. The 30-year-old allowed 5 earned runs on 10 hits over 6.2 innings with just two strikeouts. I actually caught some of King Felix’s start, and he was pretty close to being ejected in the first inning over arguing a missed strike call, and that was right before he served up the three-run home run to Todd Frazier. Not a good return for Felix, but the good news is that his fastball velocity was around 92 MPH throughout his start, which is an increase of about 1-2 MPH from what he was working with before he went on the disabled list.
