Pretty awesome story here. When Ebner originally took his leave from the Patriots, the USA coach wasn’t very high on him making the squad but he is officially heading to Rio. Obviously Ebner was an All-American at Ohio State before the Pats took him in the sixth round and turned him into a special teams specialist, but according to him playing in the Olympics has long been a dream of his. Ebner’s dad was a rugby player at the University of Minnesota and rugby was always what they bonded over, until his father was beaten to death during an attempted robbery at their family auto reclamation shop in 2008, so even though it was originally thought of as a longshot Nate wanted to make this squad to honor him. If that’s not an achievement that’s worthy of acknowledgement then I don’t know what the fuck is. Huge congrats to Ebner. Bring home that gold, baby.
