Zaza Pachulia Signed A 1 Year, 2.9 Million Dollar Deal With Golden State Instead Of Going Elsewhere For 10's Of Millions More

NBC - When veteran center Zaza Pachulia signed a one-year, $2.9 million deal with the Golden State Warriors earlier this month, it was an obvious case of an older player taking less money to have a chance to contend for a championship. Considering the kind of money other centers got, it seemed clear that he was leaving money on the table. He reportedly was talking to the Wizards about a deal in the two-year, $20 million range, which they never officially offered but he would have accepted. Instead, they signed Ian Mahinmi to a four-year, $64 million deal.

The Wizards could’ve had Zaza Pachulia, CSN has confirmed with multiple league sources, for less (two years, $20 million) but went with Mahinmi instead. There were discussions between the sides but the Wizards were non-committal and Pachulia ended up signing with the Golden State Warriors for just one year and $3 million. Pachulia is three years older and faded down the stretch last season with the Dallas Mavericks. Mahinmi could end up being better in 2016-17, but $13 million-a-year better? How both perform next season will be worth monitoring.

Just like when David West opted out of 12.6 million last year to play for the Spurs for 1.4, I hate it. I don’t hate it assssss much as I hated David West because the Warriors are 150% locks to win a championship, but I still hate anyone who walks away from 17 million dollars. Nobody is going to look back at Zaza Pachulia’s illustrious career and remember he won a title. But Zaza will look back at Zaza’s bank account and wonder how much nicer it’d look with 17 million more dollars in it. I mean, motherfucking Timofey Mozgov who averaged 6 and 4 signed for 4 years, 64 million with the Lakers. There’s a guy with a good head on his shoulders. Fuck Zaza and double fuck David West, who sneaky under the radar jumped ship from the Spurs to the Warriors last week. Some people are rooting against the Dubs because of the whole Durant thing, I think now I’m rooting against them because of Zaza Pachulia and David fucking West.
