MLB Trade Rumors — The White Sox are promoting right-hander Carson Fulmer to the Majors today to work out of their bullpen, according to Dave Williams of Barstool Sports (links toTwitter). MLBPipeline.com’s Jesse Burkhart first tweeted that Fulmer was likely heading to the Majors. Fulmer will inherit the 40-man roster spot that was vacated by yesterday’s outright of right-hander Scott Carroll.

I was taking shots of Malorts at the bar last night when I got some Intel that the Sox were calling up Carson Fulmer. Shot one text out to one of my people, and just like that *bam* breaking news. Barstool MLB Insider WSD breaking news stories while guzzling shots that taste like bug spray at the same time. NBD.

Anyways, enough horn tooting. I wrote about Carson Fulmer back in February. You can read my breakdown HERE.

Long story short, White Sox fans are going to love everything about Fulmer. I can’t say it enough. Yes, he’ll be erratic at times and he still has a lot to polish (read: his command) before he is inserted into the rotation in 2017, but he is such a gamer with a “fuck you” attitude he’ll immediately become a fan favorite.

At a glance a lot of people will look at his stats in AA Birmingham this year and say he was rushed, and an argument can definitely be made that he was, but over his last 6 starts he has really started to find a groove.

Last 6 starts: 36IP, 3.5ERA, 46Ks, 11.5 K/9, 15BB, 3.75 BB/9 — inflated because of one start where he went 4.1, gave up 6 earned

Last 3 starts: 19IP, .94ERA, 22Ks, 10.4 K/9, 9BB, 2.1 BB/9

I am of the opinion that throwing Fulmer into the fire will in no way impede his development as a pitcher and that he can be an effective reliever at this very moment. He’s too competitive to let that happen and his pure “shit” is that good. Also, the trade market for relievers may not have played into Hahn’s liking so far this year, so looking internally may have been their best option.

Morneau will also be in Chicago this weekend as well, as the Sox optioned Coats back to Charlotte. Scotty Carroll was outrighted to Charlotte to make room for Fulmer, but since Fulmer won’t be taking Rodon’s spot in the rotation while he rehabs his sprained wrist, a corresponding move will have to be made for Jacob Turner, who will be making a spot start in Rodon’s place. My money is on Beck being optioned.

Also of note, apparently Jackson’s injury was worse than originally anticipated, so the Sox are still in the market for a big bat. Cargo and Bruce are pipe dreams – they’d cost too much in terms of prospects, so the Sox may be in play for a player in the mold of Charlie Blackmon. It’s all conjecture at this point, so just gonna have to ride out the next two weeks or so until the deadline and hope Hahn can pull a rabbit out of his hat.
