Mark Trumbo Will Be Visiting #DongCity At The Home Run Derby In San Diego

For the fourth year in a row, an Oriole will be mashing homers in the derby. Manny Machado went last year, Adam Jones in 2014, and Chris Davis back in 2013. This will be Trumbo’s second appearance in the derby- he made his first appearance in 2012 as an Angel. Trumbo leads the world in home runs this season with 26, including 2 in their big extra-inning win yesterday. It was a no-brainer for Trumbomb to accept the invitation.

Trumbo is perfect for the home run derby and will a treat to watch. He hits the high, towering homers that have some insane hang time on them, and doesn’t hit many cheap bombs. Looking at the chart above, you can see that his homers aren’t only homers at hitter-friendly Camden yards either, he’s hitting some massive shots that would get out at pretty much every park except for the Polo Grounds. Not including his 2 bombs yesterday, he is averaging 412 feet per home run, averaging 5.18 seconds of hang time, and they’re coming off his bat at over 106 MPH, I’m not really sure what that all means, but I think it means he is murdering his homers.

I don’t want to hear about how the derby messes up your swing, and it messes with your head. These guys are professionals, we don’t need to cite Bobby Abreu’s massive drop-off every time someone has a bad second half after they hit in the derby. Sure Frazier dropped off last year after he won, Cespedes was fine in the backend of 2014 and 2013 after he won it, same with Prince Fielder in 2012 and Cano in 2011. Trumbo is way too good to let some extended batting practice screw up his swing. Sorry, I just don’t believe trying to hit homers in a contest puts a gigantic hole in your swing and screws you up.

And yes, I’m aware that July, August, and September are where his numbers tend to dip, so sure one more night of rest would have been okay with me, but he’s leading the league in bombs, he has to hit. Love that he’s not taking the easy way out, no pussyfooting out of him. As an upcoming free agent, it is just another chance to show how good he is, maybe earn some extra cash too. Plus, I thought we wanted to Make Baseball Fun Again? Looks like that is what Trumbo wants to do, unlike Bryce Harper who doesn’t practice what he preaches. Way to be a poser Bryce, you can’t say stuff like that, then back out of a ball hitting contest, but whatever floats your boat.

Looking forward to many, many Trumboners, I don’t even need to see who else is in the contest, Trumbo is going to win it, and will probably break some windows in that building in left.
