Nats Finish Off The Sweep Behind A Scherzer Gem And Two Daniel Murphy Bombs

Beautiful. Just shows what coming home can do for a team. After losing 7 straight on the West Coast, including some ugly ones, the Nats rebounded hard, sweeping the Mets in Nats park by the combined score of 20-6.

Last night was another Scherzer gem. 7.1 innings giving up only 2 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 10 Mets on the way to his 9th win of the season. Until the Mets scored in the 9th, the Nats starters and relievers sent them packing without a run scored for 23 straight innings this series.

Last night’s win over the 3rd place Mets now puts the Nats at 15 games above .500, with the Mets treading water only 3 games over .500, and about to start a 4 game set with the Cubs. Meanwhile the Nats have 4 against the Reds. Nats can open up a huge lead over the Mets this holiday weekend, while we have to hope the Braves can steal a few from the Marlins as they are set to play 4.

Nats have to be feeling pretty good about everything heading into July 4th. They finished their long West Coast swing and bounced right back. The starting pitching is primo, the bullpen is coming together, the bats are hot, the FWAHHHs are flying, and the Mets are terrible. (Seriously, bless the Mets soul, De Aza and his .158 average was LEADING OFF yesterday! That’s just so brutal.)
