IN THE FACEEEE!! Billy Hamilton’s fine, so we can laugh at him now. After losing six out of seven games last week, the Cubs are getting back on track by completing a three-game sweep of the Reds in Cincinnati, capped off with Anthony Rizzo hitting an inside the park home run off of Billy Hamilton’s face. Random thought, but I’ve always felt like the inside the park home run should not be counted as an actual home run. It should be its own category, because it’s not a reflection of power — it’s a reflection of fuckery.
But that’s neither here nor there. What is worth noting, however, is that, since that inside the park home run does count towards Rizzo’s overall home run total, he’s at 19 homers for the season, which puts him on pace to hit 40 this year. That would be a career high, and the first time he’s reached 40 home runs in his career, and also the first time that a Cubs player has hit 40 in a season since Derrek Lee hit 46 in 2005.
