Nike Women's Tennis Players Complain That Their White Skirts For Wimbledon Are Too Short
WaPo- Wimbledon officials are infamously persnickety about what players wear while competing at the event, but this time, the shoe is on the other foot. Or, in this case, the dress is back in the shop for alterations, after complaints that it was too revealing and got in the way during play. The problem is more one for Nike than for Wimbledon, which signed off on the “Premier Slam” dress because it adhered to standard of being all white, apart from a small Swoosh. What it apparently didn’t do was cover enough of players’ bodies, especially when it rode up over their waists as they hit shots. At least 20 women in Wimbledon’s main draw, which starts next week, are paid to wear Nike apparel, including Victoria Azarenka, Petra Kvitova and Eugenie Bouchard. Serena Williams, another Nike endorser, will wear her own, signature version of the dress, one that is more structured and less revealing.
Huh? Did that Washington Post article use the wrong pictures? I think they did. Because those are the least revealing women’s tennis outfits that I think I’ve ever seen. I’m serious. I half expected to see a naked woman standing on the court when I first read about this. Those outfits seem fine? They look like a normal tennis outfit. That’s not to say these women can’t demand more cover up if they want it, go right ahead. Tell Nike to fix that shit. Wear a track suit for all I care. What I’m saying is that I’ve seen outfits on women’s tennis players that show both their ass cheeks. Maybe even more than that. Maybe a little toe. Maybe some nips showing through. I have for sure seen Serena Williams’ and Caroline Wozniacki’s asses on full display at multiple tournaments. No complaints here it just seems odd to draw the line now. Maybe it’s different since it’s Wimbledon and they wanna look classier than usual. Who knows.
