In case people can’t see the picture clearly because technology isn’t exactly our strong suit here at Barstool, I have transcribed it below:
[…] (you promised) to protect me […] Now you have a chance to fulfill your promise […] (Knights) of the Vale are under your command. Ride (north) for Winterfell. (Lend) us your aid and I shall see to it that you are […] rewarded.”
God I love the internet. Chock full of people doing God’s work (as well as a ton of porn). I took one quick look at that letter and thought there was no way in hell we could decipher what it said. Charlie asked on Monday during his weekly Thrones recap blog for someone to try and figure it out, but I think it was more tongue-in-cheek than anything. Instead we have a hero doing it for nothing but upvotes from total strangers and to quench the world’s thirst for knowledge.
I’ve watched Next Ons for The Challenge countless times in slow motion to try to figure out who the mystery replacement teams would be over the years. I don’t know what it is about finding this type of stuff out, but it is exhilarating in the same kind of way you felt if you found your Christmas presents. The thing is you never want to see TOO much of what’s going on. Maybe a stocking stuffer or a relatively important part of next episode’s plot that you think you already know, but not the entire Christmas bonanza or a Red Wedding-sized spoiler. It’s why being ahead of the books is so great. We can toss fan theories around (cough, Cleganebowl, cough) or take screenshots or move our DVRs slower than a snail to figure stuff out.
And if this is right, it will definitely lead to an angst-filled hour. Because while Jon and his army were likely overmatched against the Boltons, Sansa going behind his back to reach out for that snake Littlefinger’s help is a huge red flag. I thought there was a chance the letter was to the Blackfish telling him to relinquish the castle and help her out. But I guess Sansa sent Brianne out to do that. Littlefinger was the obvious choice, but I don’t trust him as far as he can throw me.
And if you want to hear more about the last episode of Thrones, myself and Charlie Wisco broke down Sansa’s letter, the Hound’s return, the Blackfish vs. Jaime standoff, Arya’s stiuation, and much more:
