Travis Hamonic Rescinds Trade Request, Will Remain An Islander

We’re just about 40 hours into the offseason it’s already shaping up to be a good one following news that Travis Hamonic has rescinded his request to be traded.

When news of Hammer’s desire to be moved closer to his home in Winnipeg was made public back in November everyone, including myself, saw the trade as a “when” as opposed to an “if.” Talks of Hamonic for ____ have been floating over everyone’s heads for months now, with everyone from Eberle to Hall to Scheifele to Kopitar being thrown into the mix, despite how unrealistic some would have been. But put those rumors to bed, tuck em in, and place the pillow over its desperate little face, Hammer’s an Islander and will be for fucking ever baby!*

With names like Nielsen, Martin, and Okposo set to hit free agency, the assumed departure of Hamonic was just another blow Isles fans were prepping to deal with this summer, and though there isn’t a single soul that isn’t happy to see Hamonic coming back, this does take away the idea of what his return could have been if he was in fact traded. Many saw the Hammer deal as the opportunity to pick up a big name winger for Tavares, something this team desperately needs, but with him set to remain in blue and orange, that route is all but closed up for GM Garth Snow ashis attempts to find the Captain some support will have to be done through a different source.
