So I saw some rumblings about this yesterday, this narrative that the Cubs played scared or weak baseball by walking Bryce Harper all series long. To be honest I didn’t think it was real, I thought it was a few salty fans complaining about a loss. But now I see it’s coming from actual players on the Nats and I can’t help but laugh. Hello? You play to win the game. You know how you stop teams from walking Bryce? Put a good player behind him in the lineup. Why the fuck would Joe Maddon pitch to Bryce Harper when he can instead let Ryan Zimmerman go 2 for 19 (he stranded FOURTEEN runners on Sunday). That’s the person people should be mad at. Not the Cubs, not Maddon, not Harper, you should be mad at Dusty Baker for being a moron and Ryan Zimmerman for sucking ass. Did the Nats intentionally walk Bryant? No because Anthony Rizzo is behind him. Or how about Rizzo? No because Ben Zobrist is behind him. And on and on we go. You can’t be mad if your roster is unbalanced and you aren’t properly protecting the best player in baseball. And make no mistake Nats fans, this is just the start. Like Barry Bonds back in the day, once people realize they can pitch around a player because he has no lineup protection it will start happening all the time. The Cubs may have been the first team to do this but they certainly won’t be the last. We’re just trying to make baseball fun again by winning baseball games instead of hitting solo home runs and flipping our hair back. Sorry?
