Wake Up With Lorenzo Cain And The Royals Walking Off Against Jonathan Papelbon

Normally, I’m pretty apathetic towards whether or not players succeed or fail once they’re no longer on my team, but watching Jonathan Papelbon fail will never stop giving me joy. The Royals were trailing 6-4 going into the bottom of the ninth, facing the National League saves leader in Papelbon, who was looking for his tenth save. Mike Moustakas had a two-run single with one out, and Lorenzo Cain delivered the dagger three batters later. Second blown save of the season for Papelbon, and just the third time that he’s allowed an earned run in 13 appearances this year.

Also, I just had to get this off my chest really quick. Great win, Royals. That’s one hell of a ball club and one hell of a closer that you just beat. But are you seriously campaigning for the fucking All Star Game already? This is why so many people outside of Kansas City hate you guys. You are literally the only team in the MLB with their Twitter account going nuts over All Star Game votes five weeks into the season, and this comes one year after everyone hated you for stuffing the ballots and making a mockery out of the All Star Game. Not that it needed any help with the “This time, it counts!” bullshit. But still. Act like you’ve been there before, guys. You’re better than this.
