The Redskins Can Go Ahead And Sign Junior Galette Any Time Now

So the Redskins have done next to nothing in free agency. While this is a solid transition from the previous “overpay for anyone and everyone” days of the past, it has also left the Skins weak on the O-line, D-line, and secondary. Dashon Goldson was cut, Jason Hatcher was cut, Potroast is gone, Kory Lichtensteiger is the starting center as of right now, and D-Hall and Duke Ihenacho are currently the starting safeties. Defensive end Kendall Reyes was brought in from the Chargers, and while still young with room to improve, has never been a game changer. And that’s where Junior Galette comes in.

You might remember Junior Galette. Had 12 sacks in 2013 and and 10 in 2014, and then had some off the field issues leading to his release. The Redskins scooped him up for basically free, and then Galette tore his Achilles and missed the entire season.

During the time he was rehabbing his Achilles, Galette got a massive Redskins tattoo on his arm. Any time a player who hasn’t played a snap for you gets your logo tattooed on his arm, you have to sign him.

But obviously that’s not the only reason they should sign him. Getting to the QB is so important in this league. Right now, the Skins have Ryan Kerrigan who is fantastic, and Preston Smith, who came out of nowhere to have 8 sacks in his rookie season. Behind them though, nothing. Even Frank Kearse, who the Skins released and signed 3 times, is gone. Trent Murphy is getting better but only had 3.5 sacks last year. Having Galette on the team to rush the passer gives this team the pass-rushing depth they so sorely lack.

And I love when guys want to be here.

I have full faith in Scot, but I am hoping Galette sticks around. There’s no denying the Skins have not improved in the offseason, which scares me, but keeping Galette on board would be a huge boost.
