The NBA’s slate of games is here. One game of note for the Barstool offices interest is Hank’s Celtics -9 hosting Clem ,KFC’s and sadly my own Knicks. The Celtics are picking up steam as of late with an 18-7 record in their last 25, while the Knicks are 2-10 since February 2nd.
Below are some trends via OddsShark.com that dive deep into that match up :
-OddsShark’s Joe Osborn wrote a great piece on live in game betting. He points out some great stats on when to ride and fade certain teams.
– The NHL is in action with just 3 games tonight, here’s the full trends for those match ups.
Oilers- Blue Jackets
– Heavy favorites Mcgregor and Holm will be in action on Saturday night at UFC 196. For the full card look here.
– The main story this weekend is college hoops. It is March and that’s when college hoops dominates. As you know, I’ve been tuned in since the tip off around Thanksgiving but some of the world only starts to pay attention starting now. Sucks to be them.
Conference Tournament odds have been listed for the big conferences , which brings up what seems to be Rico Riders favorite topics- future bets.
Let’s look at some of those conferences and take a stab at who’s payout has good value.
Pac 12 :
The way the semi’s are in line to shake out are Oregon vs Cal/Colorado , and Arizona vs Utah if seeds hold to form. I’ve been high on the Ducks as of late, and think they are serious threat in the NCAA Tournament, and although I think they will win the Pac 12, it’s boring to pick the #1 seed, so my advice is take your pick here on one of the following if your looking for value : Oregon or Utah I was big on Arizona earlier this year as a sleeper and I still like them (given the right breaks) but to have Utah’s size of Poeltl and Kuzma will cause serious match up problems for Zona and even Oregon in the final. Good odds for a team with a good draw.
Pick : Virginia +300. Like the way they match up with Miami in potential semi final even though they just lost. Duke and UNC are set up for a potential blood bath semifinal , and will have a quick turnaround to get ready for a really disciplined UVA team. Good payout for an experienced team.
I wasn’t in love with the Big 12, Big East, West Coast Conference, AAC and Big Ten odds, as the teams I think are going to win don’t have great payouts, so if you’re looking at sheer long shots. I would take stabs on : Iowa ST +800, Seton Hall +900 , BYU +300, Houston +700, and Iowa +700.

Justin Hartling’s Ivy preview is a great read which brings us to the picks
Yale 1h -6
I take a lot of games where I say I rely on a team to show guts. Well if the smart guys at Yale don’t have guts to come out inspired to play for what locks up at least a playoff game for an IVY league title and a shot at their first tourney bid since 1962, I don’t know when they’ll ever find it.
In my research I noticed Yale might be the best team when it’s rested. The Ivy schedule does either 1 game a weekend, or 2 in a weekend, but never during the week. This usually allows for a week in between games. When give a week’s rest Yale is 6-1 since January with wins by an average of 14 points a game. Add in the fact that stingy 30th ranked defense will stifle Cornell’s 295th offense and you got every reason to believe Yale will put there foot on the gas and not let up as a loss would be a disaster for their IVY title hopes.
Princeton 1h -3.5
More smart guys inspired ! Princeton essentially has to win out to keep up with Yale and force a playoff (they split during the year) for IVY Title. Princeton’s won 8 straight and 12 out of last 13 including a 21 point win over Harvard where they shot 60% from the field including 41% from deep. Harvard turns it over a ton and shoots an abysmal 58% from the charity stripe. Give me Princeton to cover.
Mercer/Citadel OVER 169.5
Mercer has hit a rough stretch with 7 straight losses. Citadel is allergic to defense, but will play inspired to have some sort of life in a high point of this season. Expect a ton of 3’s and layups to push this over.
Best Bets :
Wichita State 1h -10.5
Wichita State -17
Loyola (IL) just fought off Bradley yesterday and frankly they got lucky. Montel James scored 20 points , and Bradley shot 10-23 from 3pt while making just 10 two point field goals. When James faced Wichita State in his two meetings he had 25 points combined. Bradley was also 9-29 from three in both games so don’t expect easy shots to just fall as Wichita is ultra aggressive on D. Factor in the 2nd game in 24 hours + the early 1pm tip, and the fact that Loyola only has a 7 man rotation with 4 of them playing over 30 minutes yesterday and I like the veteran group of Van Fleet and Baker to get things done today with a statement win.
-Normally here is where I continue my running joke about my man Hank, and while I wish him a safe flight. I remind everyone sometimes there are stories in sports that are bigger than the spread. If you read my earlier this year you’ll remember covering SUNY Geneseo student athletes overcoming the loss of their teammates. Tonight the Women’s Basketball team is in the 1st Round of The NCAA Tournament , and tomorrow the men’s Ice Hockey team is in the conference title game. Hats off and best of luck to both programs. Go Knights ! Have a great weekend.
Last Week : 1-0 on an easy Memphis NBA win
