Craziest Comeback of the Year...UVA Scores 9 Points In 20 Seconds To Beat Wake at the Buzzer

Cav DailyVirginia was down 10 points with 1:23 to play. Then, down seven with 28 seconds remaining.

No. 11 Virginia (16-4, 5-3 ACC) hit three triples in the final 14 seconds to complete the comeback against Wake Forest. Sophomore guard Darius Thompson, who had not attempted a field goal all game, banked in a contested three at the buzzer to give the Cavaliers their first ACC road win of the season.

Virginia, which led for all of 45 seconds Tuesday, scored 18 points in the final 1:23 to stun the Demon Deacons (10-10, 1-7 ACC), 72-71.

Kind of proves that there’s no God in my opinion. At least from Wake’s perspective. I mean how can you still think there’s anyone up there looking out for you after this happens?

When you lose after being up 7 with 20 seconds left?

After you don’t win a game with THIS win probability?

After this shot goes in OFF GLASS??

Shot by a kid who hadn’t hit a three in over a MONTH?

The Demon Deacons showed little pressure on the ensuing inbounds pass, allowing Thompson to hit a corner three, despite contact. The Tennessee transfer had yet to hit a triple since Virginia hosted California Dec. 22.

And who hit…you guessed it…one shot all game??

No chance he called glass either.

Sure, Wake missed free throws and played lazy defense. But at some point you just got to have a little bit of faith that every single thing that could possibly go wrong, won’t go wrong, and you won’t lose in heartbreaking, gut wrenching fashion. Just sayin, maybe you can go ahead and skip church this Sunday.
