Iowa Basketball Surges To #3 In The Latest AP Poll, Whispers Of A No. 1 Seed Start
LET’S GOOOOOOOOOO. #3! Can you believe it? I can’t. I really can’t. This was supposed to be a “whatever” year for Iowa basketball and all of a sudden we’re one of the best teams in the country. Running through top-ranked B1G opponents with double digit wins and now the Hawks are even getting some No. 1 seed buzz. What A Time To Be Alive. Truly. Not to mention it’s the most likable team in some time. Every time I tweet about Iowa basketball and how excited I am, people hit me with “Don’t get your hopes up too high. Remember what happened with the football team?” Yeah, I do remember. I remember really well. But you know what else? I’m either all in on something or all out. I either love something 200% or I love it 0%. It’s just how I’m wired. Who cares if I get my heart broken again? I don’t care. I’d rather go through this loving the team as much as I possibly can instead of being guarded and worrying when the other shoe is gonna drop. #3! Sensational.
So the Hawks are #3 in the polls. They haven’t been ranked this high in almost 30 years. They’re 7-0 in B1G play for the first time since 1970. They swept both Michigan State and Purdue in their season match ups. They haven’t lost in over a month and a half. And it’s a likable team. We are truly #blessed. Head coach Fran McCaffery can play 8 guys and be confident. A team that wasn’t supposed to be deep is actually pretty damn deep. Guys like Dom Uhl and Nicholas Baer have been great off the bench. Ahmad Wagner has shown flashes recently and even Brady Ellington got off the schneid yesterday. This team can score points in bunches. Mostly thanks to Jarrod Uthoff and his fondness for dropping 3 pointers right in the eyes of defenders. Peter Jok could get his shot off in a phone booth. Gesell takes care of the rest. It all just works.
On top of all of that, we’ve got talk of a No.1 seed. Furthermore, talk of a No.1 seed that could see the Hawkeyes playing in Des Moines which would be insane.
Does this look like the face of one of the best college basketball players in the nation?
Does this look like the face of a 7’1 center who can barely dunk but is sneaky playing great despite having t-rex arms?
Bring on Maryland.
